We run singing for health sessions in the community and on our wards

Songs for You

People singingWe run Songs for You sessions in the community for people with dementia to attend with their carers.  The sessions offer a safe and welcoming environment, they are professionally led and there are friendly staff and volunteers to support.   We sing well-known songs and learn new ones and this stimulating activity can help with general wellbeing and confidence.  You will meet others with similar experiences and there is tea and cake after the session and time to chat with friends and make new ones.

Sessions take place in Shrewsbury, Stafford & Cannock - click here for dates & venues

Dance

Dancing_1.jpgDance is taking place on our older adult wards both at Redwoods and at St George’s. We have experienced dance practitioners Rachel Liggitt and Helen Yeomans delivering to our inpatients, taking them through a range of gentle movement to music and exploring the benefits of this art form for wellbeing.

Dancing_2.jpgThe benefits of movement sessions include: stimulating cognitive function, improving mobility and responsiveness, connecting people and creating a sense of community, stimulating the senses, improving balance, co-ordination and confidence and encouraging self-expression in a safe environment.

Songs for You provides fortnightly singing sessions for people with dementia, their carers and older adults experiencing isolation to come together and sing a range of well-known songs plus some new ones in a safe and friendly environment. The project is vital for people who love music and singing or just want to be somewhere joyous and friendly – where they can share interests with others. There is always a chance for a cuppa and a piece of cake, plus laughter as well as plenty of singing.
