Music and singing are something that the person with dementia and the carer can share together – when so many other interests and activities can no longer be enjoyed. Song lyrics and music seem to remain in the memory when other critical aspects are lost or forgotten. So it reminds the person of who they are and allows them a glimpse of their former self.
Our Songs for You sessions delivered by our music practitioner Gillie Nicholls also provide a support and social circle to participants, some who may have lost friends/ loved ones because of their illness.
The project takes place in Stafford, Cannock and Shrewsbury and the sessions are organised by Arts for Health, part of Midland Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.
The next sessions funded by The People’s Post Code Lottery are as follows:
- Stafford: Monday 29th April at 1.30pm: Walton Village Hall, Green Gore Lane, Walton on the Hill, Stafford ST17 0LD
- Cannock: Tuesday 30th April at 1.30pm: St Thomas Church, Dual Way, Stafford Road, Huntington, Cannock WS12 4PD
