Drumming with Dave page thumbnail

Soon after Dave came to Yew ward it was discovered he had been classically trained to play the Indian drums, known as Tabla.

With the encouragement of Healthcare Assistant Chris Bennett and the loan of some Djembe drums from Arts for Health - Dave was soon blowing everyone away with his drumming skills.

He has been learning since the age of 9 and performing live from 13 - playing in Temples and at religious festivals the world over, to huge crowds in America, Canada, Australia and New Zealand to name but a few.

He describes his training as ‘very rigorous and demanding’ and that his talent is ‘God given but also requires lots of practice and determination’.  Part of his training was to always be willing to teach other people if they ask and he has been true to his word in sharing his gift with staff and service users on Yew ward.
